The SWEP (Software Engineering and Products) group at EDS provide software compilers and development tools for embedded systems on OpenVMS platforms.

The SWEP group started in the 1970’s as part of SD (System Designers) a software development organisation which recognised a market requirement to develop quality compilers on VAX hardware.  CORAL 66 was developed in conjunction with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) followed by CONTEXT and PERSPECTIVE, a PASCAL based development tool.

SD then took over Scicon and became SD Scicon.  During this period further development of the products continued with Ada compilers being added.

During the late 1980’s in partnership with Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) they developed XD Ada which gained recognition in the software development and applications world.

In more recent years SD Scicon was taken over by EDS but SWEP retained their close working relationship with Digital, which was bought by Compaq in 1998. In 2001-2002 Compaq merged with Hewlett Packard (HP), who are now the owners of OpenVMS.

During this time SWEP products have been migrated to the OpenVMS Alpha and recently to HP Integrity Server platforms.

In August 2008 EDS was bought by HP (Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.), and is now called EDS, an HP company.
